On any Given Sunday…

If you’re a football fan, you know the meaning of (and appreciate) that statement.  If you’re not, it basically means that anything is possible when two teams get together and put their blood, sweat and tears into the game.  In basketball it’s the half-court shot at the buzzer.  In baseball it’s the bottom of the ninth, two outs, bases loaded, down by three runs grand slam that wins the game.  In our business it’s the “whale” case that we were just brought in on.  For me, it’s the “hunt” as much as the “kill” that keeps me excited to be in the business.  I look back on my years just out of college and see the steady salary and benefits that my co-workers in the government coveted as heavy chains I’m glad to have shed and wouldn’t have it any other way.

It’s easy to get into a rut in our business.  We have a slow period, case decline or some other situation that puts us in a funk.  Since many of us work alone or out of our homes and have spouses that have little clue what it takes to survive in this business, it’s often tough to climb out of those dumps.  The one thing that get’s me out of that mood is activity.  Coincidentally, activity is the single most important factor in our success.  The more activity I have, the more sales and appointments I get and the more those in turn give me motivation and confidence to make even more calls.  Designate a certain number of hours per week for nothing but seeing and calling on people.  Happiness begins with the first step and the “whale” could be the next call you make!
